Washoe County is located in north west Nevada along the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is the county seat to Reno.  The county has a total land coverage of 6,600 miles and borders Oregon and California.  Washoe County is the second largest city in the state of Nevada.

Incline Village at Lake Tahoe and Sparks are other communities located in Washoe County.  The county boasts a great quality of living, plenty homes and a growing economy.  The climate here is mild, with low rainfall and low humidity and the area enjoys all four seasons.


History of Washoe County


Created in 1861, Washoe County is one of the original counties of nine in Nevada.  The county was named for the Wahoe people, the first to inhabit the area.  In 1883 it was consolidated with Roop County, and in 1871, Reno replaced the first county seat, Washoe City. 



Schools In Washoe County


Washoe County is served by the Washoe County School District.  There are 65 elementary schools, 16 middle schools and 17 high schools in the district.  The Regional Technical Institute is also in the area.  It offers a large variety of advanced occupational classes for seniors and juniors.  The district is strongly committed to high academic standards and achievements for every student.

For students with multiple or severe disabilities, the Marvin Picollo School is here to serve all these students in all grade levels.

Washoe County Recreation


Washoe County offers tons of recreation and activities.  Most of the activities can be found in Reno.  Reno is a hot spot for tourists and has many variety's entertainment, music, ultimate nightlife, casinos, magic shows, museums, theatres, exquisite dining and so much more.  Reno also hosts many year-round festivals.  There are tons of parks that offer playgrounds, picnicking, hiking and biking trails, plus, ball field and ball courts.

Sparks is another large city in the area that offers plenty in recreation for its residents.  The city offers year-round activities, street events and many neighborhood and city parks.  You can also choose from over two dozen ski area for some of the best skiing in the U.S.
